Frequently Asked
Questions
Everything you need to know about capturing, editing, and licensing Savvyshot.
General
Is Savvyshot free?+−
Yes. Savvyshot is free to download and use. A license is required to remove the watermark from your screenshots and unlock the full feature set, including unlimited presets and device mockups.
Is Savvyshot available on the web?+−
No. Savvyshot is currently available only as a desktop application for Windows and macOS. All processing happens locally on your machine - no browser, no uploads.
Will there be a Linux distribution soon?+−
There are no plans for a Linux version at this time. We're focused on delivering the best possible experience on macOS and Windows. We'll consider Linux support based on user demand in future updates.
Capturing & Annotating
Can I delay a capture instead of taking it instantly?+−
Yes. Region captures can be triggered with a delay from the tray icon on Windows or the menu bar on macOS - choose 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, or 10 seconds before the screenshot is taken, giving you time to set up menus, tooltips, or hover states.
What is the Spotlight annotation tool?+−
Spotlight dims everything on your canvas except a rectangular or oval area you focus on, drawing the viewer's eye exactly where you want it. You can adjust the dim color and opacity to match your screenshot's style.
Does Savvyshot support scrolling capture?+−
Yes. Savvyshot can capture long web pages, lengthy documents, or infinite feeds by automatically scrolling the target window and stitching the sections into a single image.
Can I customize the background of my screenshots?+−
Yes. Choose from built-in preset backgrounds, gradients, solid colors, your own custom images, or search Unsplash directly inside the app. Video backgrounds are also supported and can be exported as GIF or MP4.
Can Savvyshot automatically redact sensitive information?+−
Yes. Auto Redaction uses on-device, native OCR to detect and hide things like emails, credit card numbers, or API keys, so sensitive content never has to be redacted by hand.
Privacy & Permissions
Is my data uploaded anywhere?+−
No. Screenshot capture, editing, annotation, and redaction all run locally on your machine. The only network requests Savvyshot makes are for things you explicitly trigger, such as Unsplash background searches, license verification, and update checks.
Why does Savvyshot ask for Screen Recording / Accessibility permissions on macOS?+−
These macOS system permissions are required for capturing screen content and for scrolling capture to scroll the target window automatically. Savvyshot includes a dedicated Permission Check page showing your Screen Recording status with a one-click Grant Permission button; Accessibility is requested separately when you use scrolling capture.
Licensing & Pricing
Will my license expire?+−
No. Once you purchase a license, it never expires. You can use Savvyshot for personal or commercial purposes indefinitely, and free updates are included for life.
How do I remove the watermark from my exports?+−
The default watermark only appears on unlicensed (free) exports. Activate a Basic or Pro license to remove it and apply your own custom watermark instead.
Can I use Savvyshot on more than one computer?+−
Yes, up to your plan's device limit: a Basic license can be activated on 1 device, and a Pro license on up to 3 devices at the same time. Enter the same license key on each device to activate it there.
