Permissions (macOS)

Some capture features need macOS system permissions. Savvyshot prompts for these automatically the first time they're needed (see Installation), but you can also check and manage Screen Recording anytime from the Permission Check page.

Opening Permission Check

If Savvyshot detects that Screen Recording permission isn't granted, a Permission Needed warning appears in the home window's footer. Click it to open the Permission Check page. Savvyshot also re-checks automatically whenever the app regains focus — for example, after you return from System Settings.

This page is only shown on macOS; Windows doesn't need it.

Screen Recording

Screen Recording permission is required for full-screen, window, and scrolling captures — without it, Savvyshot can't read your screen's pixels at all.

On the Permission Check page:

  • A green check means the permission is granted.
  • A warning icon means it isn't — click Grant Permission to open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording, then enable Savvyshot there.

After granting the permission, restart Savvyshot. macOS only applies a new Screen Recording grant to a freshly launched process, so the app won't pick it up otherwise.

Accessibility

Scrolling capture also needs Accessibility permission, to scroll the target window in sync with each capture step. This isn't tracked on the Permission Check page — it's requested separately the first time you use scrolling capture. Grant it under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility, then restart the app.

Tips

  • If a capture mode produces black or empty images on macOS, check Screen Recording permission first.
  • Permission changes on macOS require an app restart to take effect, even after Savvyshot reports the permission as granted.
