Capture Modes Overview
Savvyshot has four capture modes, each triggered by its own global hotkey:
| Mode | Default hotkey | What it captures |
|---|---|---|
| Region capture | Ctrl+Shift+4 | A rectangular area you draw on screen |
| Window capture | Ctrl+Shift+5 | A single application window |
| Full screen capture | Ctrl+Shift+6 | The entire screen |
| Scrolling capture | Ctrl+Shift+7 | A tall page or panel, auto-scrolled and stitched together |
These hotkeys work globally — Savvyshot doesn't need to be the focused window for them to trigger.
Triggering a capture without hotkeys
If you'd rather not use keyboard shortcuts:
- Open the Savvyshot home window and click Take Screenshot, then pick a mode.
- On Windows, right-click the system tray icon and choose a capture mode directly.
Need a few seconds to set up the screen before capturing? Use Capture Region with Delay from the tray icon or menu bar.
Customizing hotkeys
All four hotkeys can be remapped. Open Settings → Shortcut Keys, click into the field for the mode you want to change, and press your desired key combination. See Settings for details.
What happens after you capture
What you see immediately after a capture depends on one setting:
- Show preview after taking screenshot — off (default): the capture opens directly in the editor.
- Show preview after taking screenshot — on: a small floating preview window appears first. Double-click it (or use its context menu) to open the editor, or simply leave it as a pinned window.
You can toggle this behavior any time in Settings → Capture & Preview.
