Settings

Open Settings from the home window's Settings button. Options are grouped into the following sections.

Startup behavior

SettingDescription
Launch at startupStarts Savvyshot automatically when you log in, so global capture hotkeys are always available.
Start minimized to tray (Windows) / Hide on launch (macOS)Launches Savvyshot in the background without opening the home window.
Close on copyAutomatically closes the editor tab after you copy the result to your clipboard.
Confirm before closing tab/editorShows a confirmation prompt before closing a tab or the editor, so you don't accidentally lose unsaved edits.

Capture & preview

SettingDescription
Enable text selectionTurns on OCR-based text detection, used for selecting and copying text from a screenshot and for auto-redaction.
Show preview after taking screenshotWhen enabled, captures open in a small floating pinned-style preview window instead of going straight to the editor.

Shortcut keys

Customize the global hotkeys for all four capture modes:

SettingDefault
Capture RegionCtrl+Shift+4
Capture WindowCtrl+Shift+5
Capture ScreenCtrl+Shift+6
Capture Scrolling AreaCtrl+Shift+7

To change a shortcut, click into its field — this temporarily disables that hotkey — then press the new key combination you want to use. See Capture Modes Overview for what each mode does.

File management

SettingDescription
Raw file save locationThe folder where captured screenshots are saved. Use the folder picker to change it. Savvyshot warns you if the configured folder no longer exists.
Screenshot filename templateControls how saved files are named. Supports the {datetime} placeholder, which is replaced with the capture's date and time.

Tips

  • If you use Savvyshot constantly throughout the day, enable Launch at startup plus Start minimized to tray / Hide on launch so it's always ready via hotkey without cluttering your taskbar.
  • Pick a filename template that sorts naturally by date, e.g. Screenshot {datetime}.
