Canvas & Backgrounds
The Canvas and Background sections of the right sidebar control how your screenshot sits inside its frame — the padding around it, its border and shadow, and what's behind it.
Canvas settings
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Canvas profiles | Save your current canvas setup (padding, ratio, background, etc.) as a reusable preset, and switch between saved profiles. |
| Image balancing | Toggle automatic brightness/contrast adjustment of the screenshot content. |
| Aspect ratio | Choose a preset ratio (e.g. 1:1, 4:3, 16:9) or enter a custom ratio. The canvas reflows around your screenshot to match. |
| Padding | Spacing between the screenshot and the edge of the canvas (default 8px). |
| Border radius | Rounds the corners of the screenshot itself (default 8px). |
| Border | Optional solid border around the screenshot — toggle on, then pick a color and width. |
| Shadow | Drop shadow behind the screenshot — adjust radius and color. |
| Inset | An inner margin between the screenshot and its border, with its own optional color. |
Saving a canvas profile
Once you've dialed in padding, ratio, background, and other canvas settings, save them as a profile so future screenshots can reuse the same look with one click. Profiles can be reordered and renamed.
Backgrounds
The Background section controls what fills the canvas behind your screenshot. Five background types are available:
Solid color
Pick any color using the color picker. The simplest and most consistent option for branded screenshots.
Gradient
Build a linear or radial gradient with multiple color stops and a custom angle. Useful for soft, modern backgrounds.
Image
Use a local image file, or pick from Savvyshot's bundled background asset library.
Unsplash photo
Search Unsplash by keyword directly inside Savvyshot (results are fetched live, ten at a time) and apply any photo as your background.
Video (Pexels)
Apply a short video clip from Pexels as an animated background, with a thumbnail preview before applying. Video backgrounds support an optional background blur effect, and can be exported as GIF/MP4 — see Exporting.
Custom gradient presets and video backgrounds require an activated license. See Plans & Pricing.
Saving background presets
Like canvas profiles, you can save a background configuration as a preset for reuse, and reorder your saved presets.
Tips
- Combine a subtle gradient or blurred image background with generous padding for a polished "marketing" look.
- If your screenshot already has its own background you want to keep, set padding to 0 and skip the background section entirely.
